This webinar is designed for healthcare providers as a brain injury introductory overview for individuals who present with brain injury.  Topics include understanding the causes of brain injury, distinguishing between primary and secondary injuries, and understanding the severity of brain injury Mild, Moderate, and Severe. Identifying the differences between most prevalent injuries by specific age groups. In addition to identifying the characteristics of acquired brain injury, traumatic and non- traumatic injuries and their effects on the brain injury survivor/family.  This course also focuses on identifying resources for patients and families, specific legislation and funding for the brain injury populations, and investigating the continuum of care for patients living with brain injury.    

Learning Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of the causes of brain injuries, both traumatic and non-traumatic

  • Be able to articulate the effects of brain injury and injury severity

  • Be able to distinguish between primary and secondary injury

  • Be able to descript the different patterns of brain injury observed in specific age groups

  • Know the symptoms clusters of neurologic disorders, neuroendocrine disorders, sexual dysfunction, and musculoskeletal dysfunctions resulting from brain injury

Jocelyn M. Hendrix, OTR, CBIST, C/NDT, CSRS, C/LSVT is currently the Lead Occupational Therapist at Encompass Health Cityview, in Fort Worth, TX. Jocelyn received her Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University in Miami, FL and undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine: Exercise Physiology from the University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg, MS. Jocelyn has practiced occupational therapy for 15 years in various of setting including acute care, out-patient, neuro-day programs, skilled nursing, home health and inpatient rehabilitation with her areas of interest in Neurological Conditions i.e. Brain Injury, Stroke, and Spinal Cord. Jocelyn is currently the Brain Injury Program Chairperson for Encompass Health Cityview. Jocelyn is also currently pursuing her AOTA Board Certification for Physical Rehabilitation and Disabilities.
