Michelle Camicia, PhD RN CRRN CCM NEA-BC FARN FAHA FAAN has an exceptional rehabilitation nursing career spanning over 30 years. Dr. Camicia’s leadership in practice and research developing and implementing innovative interventions has improved care coordination, and equitable care for individuals with disabilities (IWD) and their caregivers. She has disseminated her work through numerous policy papers, peer reviewed manuscripts, and book chapters. As an advisory board member of the National Institutes of Health National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR), Dr. Camicia secured family caregiving as a focus in NCMRR’s Strategic Plan. She has served on numerous national boards/expert panels, and as an international accreditation surveyor for CARF International. Her leadership with the American Heart Association (AHA) and Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN), including past president, provides venues to strengthen nursing and equitable care delivery for individuals with disabilities regionally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Camicia is a transformational leader and has been recognized by many awards, including the Kaiser Permanente Exemplary Nurse Leader of the Year award (2020). The ARN has recognized her with the President’s Award (2020), Distinguished Service Award (2012), and Doctoral-Prepared Nurse Researcher (2020) awards. The ARN White Paper on The Essential Role of the Rehabilitation Nurse in Facilitating Care Transition received the ARN Article of the Year (2014). Dr. Camicia’s work on the PATH-s has been recognized by the American Heart/Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Stroke in 2020 with the Stroke Article of the Year (Camicia, et al., 2020). Further, she was a finalist for AHA/ASA Martha N. Hill New Investigator Award (2018). She is co-developing a global rehabilitation nursing certification program. Dr. Camicia earned a BSN from San Francisco State University, MSN from Sonoma State University, and PhD from the University of California-Davis.
Linda S.Y. Park, RN, BSN, CRRN - Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center, Kaiser Permanente, Clinical Practice ConsultantLinda Sun Young Park BSN, RN, CRRN, is Clinical Practice Consultant working at Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center, Vallejo CA. She started her career as a new graduate nurse in Acute Rehabilitation 9 years ago. As a Clinical Practice Consultant on the unit, she contributes and is dedicated to providing high-quality care and expert consultation on designing, developing, and implementing programs for leadership to attain organizational goals. Linda also serves as an advising mentor for the greater medical center Voice of Nursing Committee where she is instrumental in preparing for the Magnet accreditation survey, and shares and promotes the integration of rehabilitation nursing concepts with her colleague working in acute care. Linda is a Board of Director for the national ARN and Board Treasurer for her local Northern California Chapter. She has participated in several ARN national committees including the revision of the ARN Competency Model, Learning Management System (LMS), and ARN Education Design Thinking Workshop. Linda is passionate about enhancing patient education and nursing professional development and is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in Nursing Education.
Shawn Leslie McDaniel, RN, BSN - Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center, Kaiser Permanente, Staff Nurse IIShawn McDaniel, BSN, RN, is a new Nurse Graduate of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Residency Program. Shawn works as a Staff Nurse II at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo, California’s nationally celebrated Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center where she assists patients in their recovery, as well as teaches the stroke prevention class. Along with her Bachelor of Nursing from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland (Class of 2021) and Bachelor of Human Development from the University of California, Davis (Class of 1997), Shawn has experience as a credentialed elementary educator, Ordained Pastor with the Salvation Army, and Program Administrator for The Salvation Army’s extensive network of drug and alcohol recovery programs throughout the Western United States. Her areas of interest continue to be in instruction and education, elevating the patient experience, and mentorship. In her free time, Shawn likes to spend time with family and friends, get to the local beaches, and hang out with her two dogs.
Yasmin Proctor, MSN, RN, CNL, CRRN - Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center, Kaiser Permanente, Nurse Manager
Yasmin Proctor, MSN, RN, CNL, CRRN has been a nurse leader for over 6 years with Kaiser Permanente, with 3 of those years being with the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo California. Her background is in telemetry/medical/surgical, but is now a certified rehab nurse. Yasmin met her recent goal of attaining her CRRN certification in June 2022. Yasmin's passion is in nurse engagement and its effects on patient outcomes, and she is so honored and proud of all the rehab nurses who are motivated and are driving quality and performance improvement projects in the rehabilitation department. Yasmin is currently working on her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the Grand Canyon University.
Barbara Lutz, PHD, RN, CRRN, PHNA-BC, FAHA, FAAN, FARN - University of North Carolina-Wilmington, School of Nursing, McNeill Distinguished Professor
Dr. Barbara Lutz, McNeill Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington School of Nursing, is a certified rehabilitation nurse and advanced public health nurse. Her program of research focuses on understanding the needs and experiences of patients with stroke and other chronic illnesses and their family caregivers as they move through the continuum of care, from acute care to home. She has received funding from NINR and PCORI. She is currently a Co-Investigator on a study exploring the needs of patients with severe acute brain injury and their families. Dr. Lutz is a Past President of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and Past Chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiovascular Disease in Older Populations Committee. She is a member of an AHA writing group to develop metrics for Post-Acute Stroke care. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and American Heart Association. She recently served as a member of the NIH National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research Advisory Board and as a member of the ANA Care Coordination Quality Measures Steering Committee, ANA Care Coordination Expert Panel, and as a rehabilitation nurse expert on the Joint Commission Technical Advisory Panel for Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification.
