Falls are a significant public health concern with potentially fatal consequences and significant financial costs for individuals, families, and health care facilities. This webinar explores fall prevention methods.
Learning Objectives
- Nurses at all levels will identify patients at highest risk for fall events.
- Nurses will verbalize the correlation of nonverbal cognitive deficits and patient fall risk.
- Nurses will utilize opportunities for interdisciplinary communication and collaboration to optimize fall care plans and patient safety goals.
Deanna L Paxton has served as the Chief Nursing Officer for Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital, Edwin Shaw since September 2020. She has been a nurse for over 30 years, serving as a nurse leader over the past 20 years. Her passion for caregiver engagement, quality outcomes, and patient safety are the key drivers for success in her role as CNO. Deanna holds a BSN from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio and MSN from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Sharon Brodie currently serves as the Nurse Manager for Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital, Edwin Shaw with 26 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and 15 years as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse. While committed to patient safety, she strives for excellence in all aspects of care as she works along side other disciplines for patient safety.
Deborah Hogue, PT, DPT, NCS - Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital, Advanced Clinical Specialist Physical Therapist
Deborah is a board certified neurologic physical therapist since 2010 and treating therapist in the inpatient rehab setting since 2006. She graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2006 and received the American Physical Therapy Association Mary McMillan Scholarship. She was also selected as the Ohio Physical Therapy Clinical Instructor of the Year in 2021. Deborah leads the Cleveland Clinic Rehab Hospital system stroke program across three sites with 180 beds, a CARF stroke accredited facility and has worked for Edwin Shaw Rehab Hospital since 2006. She is active with research involving high intensity gait, fall prevention, and use of exoskeleton for early rehab. She serves as a clinical instructor over her career for over 30 physical therapy students from programs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. She serves as a resource for use of body weight support, functional electrical stimulation, and gait training techniques for her hospital system. She has also assisted with labs at Walsh University School of Physical Therapy. She has presented at AMRPA, ANPT Annual Conference, ACRM and for Select Medical.
