Live Webinar: Staffing Models for Inpatient Rehab
This is a LIVE webinar. The webinar will be about 1 hour in length. You will need to watch the webinar, receive a 70% or higher passing grade on a quiz, and then complete an evaluation to receive your certificate and complete this course.
This webinar will review principles of staffing a patient care unit with nurses and various staffing models identified in the literature. The structure, processes, and outcomes of implementing an innovative team care model will be discussed. Interdisciplinary team members will share challenges and lessons learned.

- Discuss basics of nurse staffing. Identify various staffing models that may be applicable to acute inpatient nursing
- Describe the structure and processes of implementing a new staffing model in an acute inpatient rehab setting
- Discuss patient and staff outcomes associated with a new staffing model in an acute inpatient rehab setting
Christopher Allen, BSN, BS, RN, CRRN; UNPC Chair - Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation, 2/14 NBT; Technology Resource Nurse and SharePoint Content Manager - Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation
Christopher is board-certified in rehabilitation nursing and has served as a bedside clinical nurse at the Orlando Health ORMC Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation since 2015. In addition, he serves as a preceptor for nursing students and new orientees and is very active on the Unit Nursing Practice Council, currently serving as its Chair. Finally, he also functions as the unit’s technology resource nurse and helps to manage the unit’s content management website on SharePoint.
Mary Jo Barnett, MSN, RN, NE-BC; Nursing Operations Manager - Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation, Orlando Health
Mary Jo Barnett is MSN prepared nurse leader with 35 years’ experience in nursing. Her clinical expertise has been in rehabilitation nursing, stroke and cardiac care, and medical surgical nursing. She has been in a leadership role for 25 years. Mary Jo enjoys start up programs and facilitating program improvement.
Susan B. Fowler PhD RN CNRN CRRN FAHA; Nurse Scientist - Center for Nursing Research, Orlando Health
Dr. Fowler is a PhD prepared nurse scientist with 43 years experience in nursing. Her clinical expertise has been in critical care, the neurosciences, and rehabilitation. She is a national leader having served as president of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and is presently the Board of Directors for the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses.
Dan Tischer, BSN, RN, CMSRN, CRRN; Clinical Assistant Nursing Manager - Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation, Orlando Health
Dan Tischer has a BA in English Literature from Plattsburgh State University in New York. He went on to attend an accelerated BSN program in Lake Mary, Florida at Remington College School of Nursing. Dan has worked for the Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation for 7 years where he has been a preceptor, charge nurse, and wound care nurse. He currently serves as the Clinical Assistant Nursing Manager.
Jason Atienza, MD, MBA, FACHE; Corporate Medical Director - Rehabilitation Medicine, Orlando Health
Dr. Atienza is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has served as medical director of inpatient rehabilitation since 2015, and as corporate medical director and division chief of Rehabilitation Medicine since 2018. Dr. Atienza is co-founder of Partners In Care, a system-wide program designed to improve physician engagement and enhance patient experience, and leads the Orlando Health Post-Acute Medical Directors Council to reduce readmissions.
