Many nurses are not exposed to rehabilitation nursing while in school therefore recruitment and retention of rehab nurses has been challenging for our unit. To address this challenge, a bootcamp, called “Rehab Reboot” was created. It is a two-day, in-person educational program aimed to increase the knowledge, skills and abilities of new and current rehab staff. Goals included education to address the continuum of care for commonly seen disease processes, recruit and retain nursing staff who are interested in the rehabilitation setting as well as encourage them to become CRRNs, and create increased understanding and respect for other disciplines to promote collaboration and interdisciplinary care.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and state at least three gaps of knowledge, skills, or abilities of your staff that could be addressed in a rehab bootcamp
  • List initial steps to take to develop your own rehab bootcamp
  • Identify potential committee members to partake in the bootcamp design and presentations
