Position Statement on Delirium from ARN and the National Association of Othropaedic Nurses (NAON)

This presentation focuses on the collaboration between ARN and the National Association of Orthopeadic Nurses (NAON), who partnered to develop a Position Statement on Delirium. The goal of this Position Statement is two-fold: first to reduce the incidence and severity of delirium among older adults and secondly to empower nurses caring for these patients to prevent, recognize and moderate costly effects of delirium. This guidance will include current evidence and standards of care.

Betty R. Clark, MEd, BSN, RN, CRRN

Betty Clark brings over 50 years of neurological and rehabilitation nursing expertise to her courses and seminars. She started as a bedside neuro nurse after graduating from the University of Virginia. She developed a passion to teach patients and their families how to live with a disability. She expanded her teaching to nurses after completing her M.Ed. at the University of Virginia. Her career path includes academia, home health administration, staff development, consulting, and research. Her last full time position before semi-retirement in 2017 was as the nurse researcher and educator for a CMS grant on Delirium in the Geriatric Patient. She became a CRRN in 1989 and she has taught many CRRN review courses nationally and internationally over the last 30+ years. Betty has also presented at ARN national, state, and local conferences on sexuality issues, CRRN review, Delirium management and numerous rehabilitation topics. She has received recognition as both Rehabilitation Educator and Administrator of the Year. Betty was chosen as one of the top 10 nurses in Houston, Texas in June 2016. Recently, she represented ARN on a Task Force to develop a Postion Statement on Delirium for both ARN and National Association of Orthopeadic Nurses (NAON).

Nichole Gulley, MSN, APRN, AGCNS-BC, CMSRN, CRRN 

Nichole is an advanced practice registered nurse with 15 years of nursing experience working with stroke and spinal cord injured patients. She is the Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Service at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Nichole earned a Bachelors degree in nursing from Ursuline College and her Master's degree in nursing from Kent State University. In her current role, she manages quality improvement projects and oversees policies and procedures for the enhanced delivery of care to Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders across the health care continuum. Other responsibilities include the creation of educational and professional development opportunities for the spinal cord injury nursing staff at the Louis Stokes VA

Notice of requirements to receive contact hours: 1.0 Nursing Contact Hours will be awarded for individuals who participate in the full activity and complete the post-evaluation for the activity. The ability to view or accept credit for this product expires on 5/2/2027.
