What is Trauma Informed Care? It is a structured treatment focusing on recognizing, understanding and responding to the effects of trauma. This module will walk you through all the key aspects of Trauma Informed Care (TIC), including the five primary goals of TIC, the impact of Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) on patients, and how to implement Trauma Informed Care.

Don Kautz, RN, PhD (CRRN from 1988 to 2018)
Donald D. Kautz, RN, PhD, is a retired, proud rehab nurse and has over 30 years of experience in rehabilitation nursing, has published extensively and presented at local, regional, national, and internationally on the role of the rehab nurse. He has worked on spinal cord, stroke, head injury, and general rehab units, in outpatient clinics and in a chronic pain program. He has taught rehab concepts for many years and has had the privilege of coauthoring with other nurses over 100 journal articles and several book chapters on a wide variety of topics, including general rehabilitation nursing, working with families, addressing spiritual and sexual concerns, and inspiring hope in our patients, their families, and ourselves. Don is a frequent speaker at rehab nursing meetings, has served on the editorial board of Rehabilitation Nursing, and has been a frequent grant reviewer for the Rehabilitation Nursing Foundation.
